Grade Calculator FAQs

Use this formula: Required Final Score = (Target Grade − Current Grade × (1 − Final Weight)) ÷ Final Weight. For example, if your current grade is 82%, your target is 90%, and the final is worth 30%: (90 − 82 × 0.70) ÷ 0.30 = (90 − 57.4) ÷ 0.30 = 108.7% — meaning it may not be achievable.
A weighted grade means different assignments or categories count for different percentages of your final grade. For example, homework might be 20%, midterm 30%, and final exam 50%. Your overall grade is the weighted average of all categories.
Add up all the points you have earned, divide by total points possible, then multiply by 100. Example: 180 points earned ÷ 200 total points × 100 = 90%. Use the Current Grade Calculator above to do this automatically.
If the calculator shows you need more than 100%, your target grade is mathematically not achievable based on your current grade and the final's weight. You may need to adjust your target grade or check if there are extra credit opportunities available.
